THE MAKING OF BABA AMTE ... contd
Food grown by "lepers" was, of course, not easily sold in the initial years. But as the scale and activities of Anadwan grew the local youth felt moved and inspired by this work. They became the link with the residents of Warora and many came forth to make contributions, both material and physical.
A contingent of fifty young volunteers of the Service Civil International (SCI) from 36
different countries spent 3 months at Anandwan, building a clinic and 2 spacious hospital wards. Once the leprosy affected persons were fit enough to leave the hospital, they ceased to be "patients".They became working members of the Anandwan community.
